The world’s population will increase to reach more than 9 billion by 2050 which means that a 50% increase of food production is needed by 2030. Currently almost 1 billion people are chronically undernourished. What’s more, demand from the energy market (including biofuels) has the potential to change the fundamentals of agricultural market systems.
Unsustainable farming practices, water scarcity and changing weather patterns all have a serious impact on food security, the environment and farming communities. As such, pressure is increasing from governments and campaigning organisations for greater transparency on where food comes from and how it is grown.
Our supply chain network includes farmers and plantation owners as well as processors, refiners and traders of raw materials. We will work closely with all of them to transform farming practices and encourage a wider move towards sustainable sourcing.
We will focus first on our top ten agricultural raw material groups, which account for around two thirds of our volume. These are palm oil, paper and board, soy, sugar, tea, fruit and vegetables, sunflower oil, rapeseed oil, dairy ingredients and cocoa.
We want to achieve sustainable sourcing without adding a cost burden for our customers and consumers. We are setting industry-leading standards for ourselves and our suppliers.
In 2015 we sourced 60% of our agricultural raw materials sustainably, having made significant progress towards our target of 100% by 2020. We have already achieved the interim milestone of 50% for 2015 which we have set ourselves in 2010 when we launched the Unilever Sustainable Living Plan.
By 2020 we will engage with at least 500,000 smallholder farmers and 75,000 small-scale distributors in our supply network in order to improve their practices and livelihoods.
We have been working on our Sustainable Agriculture Programme for 15 years, and we continue to embed these sustainability principles throughout our supply chains.
We will continue to work together with public authorities, our private sector partners and nongovernmental organisations to achieve our wider objectives.
We are also developing plans to source our non-agricultural (mainly chemical) raw materials in a more responsible way taking into account the environmental and social impact.
Knorr's mission statement is the same as our parent company, Unilever.
We work to create a better future every day. We help people feel good, look good and get more out of life with brands and services that are good for them and good for others. We will inspire people to take small everyday actions that can add up to a big difference for the world.
We will develop new ways of doing business with the aim of doubling the size of our company while reducing our environmental impact. We've always believed in the power of our brands to improve the quality of people's lives and in doing the right thing. As our business grows, so do our responsibilities.
We recognise that global challenges such as climate change concern us all. Considering the wider impact of our actions is embedded in our values and is a fundamental part of who we are.
We do not operate Allergen Free manufacturing sites, however we do have Allergen Management Programs in ALL our facilities. The intent of these programs is to avoid unintentional CROSS-CONTAMINATION of allergens BETWEEN products.
Our product labels adhere to the FDA's Strict Regulations regarding declaration of ingredients and allergens. We do not use the terms "Natural" or "Artificial Flavourings" to hide the existence of any allergens.
RECIPES CAN CHANGE. We strongly recommend that ALLERGIC CONSUMERS refer to ingredient declarations EVERY TIME they purchase processed foods. Only the vegetable Knorr Stock Pot and Liquid Stock is suitable for vegetarians.
Any product which are Halaal and/or Kosher will have the designated symbol on the package which indicates it is a Halaal and/or Kosher product (Example: Halaal logo (S.A.N.H.A S-0399); Kosher logo (PAREV). Since product formulations can change, we suggest you check your package for the most up to date Halaal and/or Kosher designation.
We have decided to include "may contain cow’s milk" statement on all of our packages made in this facility since both dairy and non-dairy containing products are handled there. We suggest you view your package for the ingredient and allergen statements.
We recommend consumers read the label each time before buying our product. If gluten is present, it is clearly listed in plain language on the ingredient label (i.e., wheat flour, rye, barley and oats). We have decided to include "may contain wheat gluten" statement on all of our packages made in this facility since both wheat gluten and non-wheat gluten containing products are handled there. Since product formulations change from time to time, we do not publish a list of gluten-free flavours.
We have started a journey to make natural choices available to our consumers such us steam-sterilisation of our herbs and spices on the majority of our products. In order to provide a similar salt taste experience, Potassium chloride, which is a healthier salt replacer, was now added to our soups and cubes. Potassium replaces sodium (salt) in the ingredient to add taste without increasing salt levels. Potassium is an essential nutrient that we all use for body functions. Other food sources of potassium are milk, fruit and vegetables, cereals and meat.

Rajah Mild Masala has a unique blend of high quality spices such as roasted coriander, paprika, methee and garlic. The masala contains a mild level of chilli and provides mouth-watering aroma and delicious flavour.

As part of our natural choices journey, Unilever have started to source steam sterilized herbs and spices from our suppliers and thus eliminating the need to radurise our herbs and spices. Steam sterilization is an effective technique as radurisation in ensuring consumer food safety and has been used with greater frequency throughout the world due to greater consumer acceptance than radurisation. It can have minimal impact to sensory characteristics such as volatile oil and colour of the herbs and spices due to the use of high temperature & pressure.
The team at Unilever have worked with our suppliers to ensure consistent quality of steam sterilized herbs and spices so that our consumers continue to enjoy the same great taste and appearance of Robertsons, Rajah, Aromat, Knorrox and Knorr products without the need to label as part of the ingredient list.

Robertsons is one of our leading brands in the market. For its long and outstanding existence in the market, Robertsons products need changes to keep up with growing consumer trends and removal of MSG was the first selected option with the purpose of making our products more consumer friendly and being available to the consumer that have concerns around usage of MSG.
The removal of MSG in Robertsons has undergone various sensory evaluations to ensure that the product still delivers the same great quality taste that Robertsons brings to your food.
Similar to glutamate occurring naturally in foods such as cheese, milk, mushrooms, meat, fish and vegetables, monosodium glutamate (MSG) enhances natural aromas present in foods. It has been safely used for more than a hundred years to balance the savoury taste in bouillons, seasonings and savoury snacks. MSG helps offering great tasting and affordable foods, and it can help to reduce the salt content of foods, thereby supporting consumers to lower their salt intakes without giving in on taste (for more on salt reduction targets and performance click link: https://www.unilever.com/sustainable-living/).
MSG is a food ingredient used widely and proven to be safe in scientific studies and confirmed by regulatory authorities around the world. However, we recognise that some consumers have questions about food containing MSG or might have a preference for MSG-free products. Therefore we include MSG in the ingredient list so that people can see when it has been added to our products, and we provide choices by offering a range of foods without added MSG.
Cool, dry place. But also ensure that you minimize the use over a steaming pot as the moisture might cause the spice to lump or go hard.
This is likely due to moisture uptake from the environment during use and storage of the spice blend. We use pure herbs and spices in our products with some extra special ingredients to give you more flavour. This combination is sensitive to high humidity, so if exposed for a prolonged period to steam or the atmosphere lumping might occur.
Yes, All the Robertsons products are still certified Halaal by SANHA and Kosher certified by UOS.
Our cinnamon is globally sourced and being a natural food ingredient there are situations of crop inconsistency. To obtain a perfect blend for flavour delivery in food dishes, Robertsons used to mix cinnamon and cassia. Both cinnamon and cassia indeed belong to the same family of plants (and even the same genus – cinnamomum) and hence used interchangeably with an addition cinnamon flavour at 0.5% to maintain flavour at all times during its shelf-life.
However, as part of the Robertsons natural journey, Robertsons now offers pure steam treated cinnamon with no added flavours that maintains and delivers consistent flavour in your Robertsons Ground Cinnamon. Pure cinnamon that is not blended with cassia will be more fragrant and aromatic.
Regulation change demands weight declaration for ground herbs and spices where we are currently declaring volume (i.e. 100ml). For consistency and clarity for the consumer (we regularly receive consumer complaints around conversion between ml and gram and perceived discrepancy between bottle and cartons) we decided to change to gram weight declaration across the total bottle range.
