Braai hack: make the best garlic bread fast
No one can resist crunchy golden bread slathered in herby garlic butter. Here’s how you can always be ready to make heavenly garlic bread at short notice, braai after braai!
Put one or more blocks of soft butter in a bowl. Mix in plenty of crushed fresh garlic and herbs of your choice, then season to taste with salt and pepper. Alternatively, use Robertsons Braai & Grill All-in-One to give your garlic butter amazing flavour.
Place the bowl in the fridge for the butter to firm up, then divide it into big balls and place each one between two sheets of baking paper or clingfilm. Use a rolling pin to flatten the butter into thin (5 mm) sheets. Freeze the sheets, still between the paper, in large zipping bags. When you’re ready to make garlic bread, slice your loaf almost all the way to the bottom, and place a piece of the frozen butter sheet between each slice. Wrap in foil and cook in the oven or over low coals.
