Tasty pap pizza with viennas and cheese

Do you feel like pizza but are working on a shoestring budget? Why not try this version which uses cooked pap as the base and top with viennas and cheese or any other topping of your choice!

  • For the pap base:
  • 1.4 lt water
  • Aromat Original
  • 500 ml maize meal
  • For the topping:
  • 15 ml sunflower oil
  • 1 punnet (250 g) button mushrooms, sliced
  • 3-4 viennas, sliced
  • 2 tomatoes, diced
  • 10 ml Robertsons Italian Herbs
  • 375 ml cheddar cheese grated


  • Place water into a large pot and bring to the boil, season generously with Aromat Original then add the maize meal
  • Stir well then reduce the heat and allow to cook with the lid on for 20-25 minutes until the maize meal is cooked, stirring occasionally
  • Line an oven or foil tray with wax paper and spread the cooked pap evenly over the base of the tray and allow to cool and set
  • Place oven onto grill function
  • Heat oil in a pan and fry the mushrooms until tender then drain off any liquid and set aside
  • Arrange the sliced viennas over the top of the pizza, followed by the mushrooms and tomatoes
  • Sprinkle with the Italian Herbs and then top with the grated cheddar cheese
  • Place into the oven to grill for 10 minutes or until the cheese has melted and is bubbling
  • Remove from the oven and cut into squares and serve
